ACADEMIC DEPARTMENTS

The academic departments vary in size according to demand. The two largest departments are English and Afrikaans and the smallest is sePedi.

The Natural Sciences have the largest departments in the non-compulsory subjects. The largest is Mathematics, followed by Life Sciences and Physical Science. The Life Sciences department consists of three large, well-equipped and well stocked laboratories, and a fourth laboratory is shared with Physical Science mainly for the teaching of Natural Sciences to junior classes.

The Physical Science department consists of a Physics laboratory and a Chemistry laboratory though there is a degree of overlapping in each laboratory of these two disciplines. A third laboratory is shared with Life Sciences. To assist teachers of these two subjects there is a highly qualified laboratory assistant.

The Mathematics department is housed mainly in the North block. For the purposes of organisation, Information Technology is grouped into a third field of study and has its up-to-date room and equipment. Learners who choose IT are chosen on merit due to the limited number of computers that are available in the centre.

The so-called Practical Subjects are housed in specially designed centres and present an interesting array of academic disciplines. The Consumer Studies Centre caters for cooking  and theoretical work.

The Art Department has its own building overlooking the tennis court gardens. Facilities are available for painting and sculpting and there is a kiln for pottery work.

The Computer Applications Technology Room is equipped with up-to-date computers and the popularity of the subject has increased in the last few years. CAT is taken from Grade 10
