CURRICULUM


Senior Phase - Grade 8 and 9

The eight areas of learning are the following:

  1. Language Literacy and Communication
  2. Social Sciences
  3. Technology
  4. Mathematics
  5. Natural Sciences
  6. Arts and Culture
  7. Economics and Management Sciences
  8. Life Orientation

The first seven learning areas will each draw on the content of the traditionally known subjects like English, Afrikaans, Mathematics, Home Economics, Physical Science, Biology, Art, Drama, Music, Accounting, Compu-typing and Computer Studies. Life Orientation will include morals and values, vocational guidance, general guidance and physical activities. Provision will be made for additional subjects.

Progress reports will be based on the continuous assessment of the pupil and will move away from reflecting solely on content accumulation and give greater clarity on study habits and attitudes and how successful the pupil has been in coping with the requirements of modern life and the modern educational system.

FET Phase - Grade 10, 11 and 12

The following subjects are compulsory:

One Home Language (English)
One First Additional Language (Afrikaans or Sepedi)
Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy
Life Orientation

Choose three other subjects from the following groups:

Group 1:
Physical Sciences
Life Sciences
Computer Applications Technology (CAT)
Business Studies

Group 2:
History
Geography
Accounting
Life Sciences

Group 3:
History
Geography
Accounting
Consumer Studies
Visual Arts
Business Studies
Information Technology (IT)

You may not choose CAT and IT together.
Immigrants need to choose a seventh subject instead of Afrikaans or Sepedi

 

Strong Links
The Glenwegians maintain strong links with their old school. A number are teachers at the school and many assist in the coaching of sports teams. Contact is also maintained through combined sporting cultural events.


Achievements

Achievements are rewarded for most of the activities at the school.

At academic level there are certificates of merit, CumLaude Certificates and Honours Certificates.

Blazer scrolls are awarded to pupils at three levels for academic and sporting achievements: bronze, Silver and Gold.
